The construction sector is Australia’s third largest employer with projected employment growth in the future. Despite its prominence, the construction sector faces a skills shortage. It also remains Australia’s most male dominated sector.
The Australian Human Rights Institute's research on the construction industry has focused on why women’s participation in the construction sector has tracked backwards in the last decade, as well as understanding of the experiences of LGBTQ+ workers in the sector.
A two-year research study by the Institute also measured how workplace wellbeing interventions, such as a compressed five-day working week with no weekend work, impacted the wellbeing of construction workers and their families.
