Human Rights Conference Series

The Australian Human Rights Institute's biennial conference in 2023 brings together academics, journalists, politicians, activists, and business leaders to explore the parallel erosion of human rights and declining trust in democratic institutions. The conference also considers how government, business, media and civil society operate to both undermine and bolster accountability.

This two-day workshop and public panel provided a timely opportunity to discuss sports and human rights in the context of the next decade of several mega sport events, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

In the lead up to COP26, Health and Human Rights in the Climate Crisis: Charting Challenges and Solutions showcased the research, policies and practice of experts in the fields of public health, climate science, law and human rights to support global developments to address climate change.

To mark 25 years since the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, the Australian Human Rights Institute and the Institute for International Law and the Humanities, Melbourne Law School co-hosted a conference to consider the advances, and retreats, in the situation of women internationally over the past 25 years. 

The 2019 Innovate Rights conference brought together leaders from business, government, academia, and advocacy to discuss how industry can be a positive player on social challenges. It featured former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, in her role as Inaugural Chair of the Global Institute for Women's Leadership, Kings College London.
