Workplace transmissions: a predictable result of the class divide in worker rights

In Australia, the Victorian government has been struggling with the challenge of how to stop people going to work in the face of rising community transmissions of COVID-19. Though measures have been implemented to punish those breaching stay-at-home public health orders and provide financial support for workers without paid sick leave, this article asserts that the crisis was entirely predictable.

It’s the consequence of a deepening class divide in work in which hundreds of thousands of essential workers in high-risk industries are poorly paid and lack job security, guaranteed hours or sick-leave entitlements.
