INTERVIEW: Behind the extraordinary rescue operation of 50 Afghan athletes

Australia will resettle 50 Afghan athletes as refugees after an extraordinary, cross-border lobbying effort to help find them a new home.

The plan to get them into Australian hands was hatched and overseen by a group of Australian sports stars and human rights lawyers.

Institute Associate Nikki Dryden, a human rights lawyer and former Olympian, spoke with ABC Radio National's Breakfast program about the rescue operation.
