FIFA drops plan for Saudi agency to sponsor Women’s World Cup

FIFA has scrapped plans to have the tourism agency of Saudi Arabia sponsor the 2023 Women’s World Cup, the soccer body’s president Gianni Infantino said.

The proposal had sparked backlash from prominent soccer players and fans, as well as sports organisations in Australia and New Zealand, who are hosting the tournament. 

Director of the Australian Human Rights Institute Professor Justine Nolan was interviewed by the Washington Post about the accusations of 'sportswashing' against Saudi Arabia.
