The Australian Human Rights Institute choir will join voices with Boston Children's Chorus and the UNSW Burgundian Consort in a special performance this month.

As part of its Australia tour, the Boston Children's Chorus will visit UNSW Sydney to open the annual UNSW Martin Luther King Lecture.

Before the lecture, the children will join the UNSW choirs for a performance on the Library Lawn, where, in 2018, the first public sculpture in Australia honouring the life and legacy of American civil rights leader Dr Martin Luther King Jr was installed among fellow human rights champions.

The Australian Human Rights Institute started a choir in 2018 to build relationships across all areas of UNSW Sydney and to support staff health and happiness.

Research has shown that singing in a choir benefits the brain (by releasing neurochemicals), the body (with improved breathing and posture) and mental health (by growing social connections).

The choirmaster is Dr John Napier from the UNSW School of the Arts and Media.

All members of the UNSW community are invited to join, and no prior musical experience is required.

To join, email humanrights@unsw.edu.au

The three choirs perform on the UNSW Library Lawn at 12.30pm on Wednesday, 17 July 2019.
